DXC Care Suite - an eMR in less than 12 months! A lesson in the art of the possible

Case Study: Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

In a decade that has seen some organisations spend the majority of their CT budget on eMR’s often spanning 10 or more years in regard to outcome o benefit realisation, it’s refreshing when an organisation rolls out eMR functionality that spans PAS, Clinicals AND Medication Management in less than 12 months.

The Royal Papworth Trust not only did this with DXC’s CareSuite -Lorenzo, they also went on to relocate an entire hospital to a brand-new digital hospital facility.  It’s important to note, this solution displaced and replaced some of the most successful solutions in the ANZ region with a cost profile well less than 50% of some traditional eMR implementations common place in ANZ.

Further, the solution is 100% premised on Socialised Medicine workflows with the most modern architectural design catering for unheard of functionality such as no down time upgrades.  Papworth is enjoying and eMR, Cloud delivered; quarterly enhancements delivered with no down time upgrades.  Seventy hospitals, 20 million patients and 150,000 users now rely on DXC’s Care Suite eMR.

In my visit last week to our European and UK customers its clear that the hospital organisations that are balancing a far lower cost and speed to benefit eMR with  “digital” investments beyond the walls of the hospital (typically not eMR’s ) are having the greatest impact on the highest cost areas of healthcare, namely  the long term illness domains.

A clear message I’ve come back from the other side of the world with is to balance the spend inside and outside the walls of the hospital.  In fact, some of the leading healthcare organisations in the world that have spent big on eMR (or inside the hospital walls), are retrospectively advising to reconsider, and balance the investments.
